Mark the calendar for the free Alfalfa Field Day on June 20 at the Los 3 Panchos Restaurant, 2031 Blossom St., at Dos Palos, Calif.
At the event, Merced County Assistant Agricultural Commissioner Yvette Pellman will update growers on non-fumigant volatile organic compounds, chlorpyrifos, and worker safety standards.
Pete Goodell, University of California Integrated Pest Management Extension advisor, will discuss alfalfa pest management and the latest pesticide regulations, plus why alfalfa is an ideal crop for integrating multiple approaches to managing pests.
Hours of the field day are 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The event is open to growers and pest control advisors.
Continuing education credits have been approved, including one hour of laws and regulations.
The field day is sponsored by the San Joaquin Sustainable Farm Project, a group which provides farmers with valuable strategies to improve yields while becoming better environmental stewards during these challenging economic and regulatory climates.
