‘I didn’t get here alone’ Part III

Merlin Schantz, the 2018 High Cotton winner from the Southwest region, credited his wife Lillian, his family, his Creator and Texas agricultural researchers for their role in his receiving the honor.

When Shelley Huguley, Farm Press’ newest staff writer, gave credit to Lillian Schantz for her part in her husband Merlin Schantz’ farming operation at the 2018 High Cotton Awards Breakfast, she knew of what she spoke because Huguley is herself a farm wife.

Merlin Schantz, who Huguley introduced as this year’s High Cotton winner from the Southwest region, also credited Lillian, his family, his Creator and Texas agricultural researchers for their role in his receiving the honor.

Schantz, who farms in Hydro, Okla., was one of five winners from the four primary regions of the Cotton Belt recognized for their dedication to conservation and growing quality cotton during the 24th annual High Cotton Awards Breakfast, which was held in conjunction with the Mid-South Farm and Gin Show in Memphis, Tenn.

Huguley is a staff writer for Southwest Farm Press.
