A 2010 California State Board of Food and Agriculture two-year investigation into how the state could promote better agricultural policies, made a notable criticism of California’s environmental regulation of agriculture. The report - “Strategies for Sustainability” - cited environmental and other rules as “often duplicative, conflicting, uncoordinated, inflexible, inconsistently administered or needlessly burdensome.” According to the report, state regulations sometimes even hinder the objectives they’re supposed to achieve.
