Suit aimed at blocking Hawaii anti-biotech law

The debate in the Hawaiian Islands over GM crop development is part of an increasing trend by state and local governments to restrict or ban the planting of biotech crops.

On Jan. 10, DuPont, Syngenta and Agrigenetics Inc, an affiliate of Dow AgroSciences, filed a lawsuit in Hawaii to block a law enacted on the island of Kauai in November which limits the planting of biotech crops and the use of pesticides. The suit claims the action in Kauai is unconstitutional and seeks an injunction permanently barring enforcement of provisions of the law.
