California CVP water allocation: 0 percent to growers

Officials have been bracing growers for this news: still it's a shock.

California farmers and ranchers will receive no water (0 percent) from the Central Valley Project (CVP) in the coming year. This applies to all CVP water north and south of the Delta and all Friant water from Millerton Reservoir near Fresno.

The initial water supply allocations will likely not change given Sierra snowpack and the weather forecast. The news means upwards of one million acres of farmland will be fallowed this year in California.
