Fresno County canal breech blamed on wild pigs

Alta Irrigation District is based in Dinuba, Calif. The irrigation district provides water to agricultural customers in Tulare and Fresno counties Water for the district comes from the Kings River    

Wild pigs are to blame for the Sunday evening failure of a levee in the main irrigation canal of Alta Irrigation District in Fresno County, Calif.

Alta Irrigation District (AID) General Manager Chris Kapheim said the breech was discovered about 6 p.m. Sunday. Emergency shut-off procedures were quickly implemented, but not before a considerable amount of water flowed across a nearby vineyard and a citrus grove.
