The Louisiana Rice Council and the Louisiana Rice Growers Association held a joint meeting Jan. 29 in Crowley, La., to elect a slate of officers for the coming year.
Rice grower Jimmy Hoppe of Iowa, La., was named president of the Louisiana Rice Council, chairman of the USA Rice Council, and member of the USA Rice Council's board.
Other newly elected officers to the Louisiana Rice Council include: Clarence Berken of Lake Arthur, La., first vice president; Charles Precht Jr. of Bell City, La., second vice president; Mindy Hetzel of Jennings, La., secretary; and Ed Patrick of Lake Providence, La., treasurer.
Also named as representatives to the USA Rice Council's board of directors were: Clarence Berken of Lake Arthur, La.; Ernest Girouard of Kaplan, La.; Mindy Hetzel of Jennings, La.; Ed Patrick of Lake Providence, La.; and Leonard Hensgens of Crowley, La.
Randy Jemison of Kinder, La., and Mark Frey, of Morganza, La. were recognized at the meeting for their prior service on the Louisiana Rice Council Board.
Elected as officers of the Louisiana Rice Growers Association were: Clarence Berken of Lake Arthur, La., president; Morgan Smith of Monroe, La., vice president; and David LaCour of Abbeville, La., secretary-treasurer.
