Spring Ag Outlook March 25, Visalia

The 2010 California Spring Ag Outlook Conference will be held March 25 at the Visalia Marriott Hotel and Convention Center in Visalia, Calif. Dairy, water, credit issues and land values are among the program session topics planned for the full day event.

Presented by the California Chapter of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers (ASFMRA), this year’s program will feature a dairy outlook for this year. Michael Marsh, CEO of Western United Dairymen will offer an in-depth look at what the dairy industry can expect to see in the coming year.

Sybrand Vander Dussen, president of the Milk Producers Council will speak on supply management and dairy price stabilization. Along with a review of California’s dairy industry, Vander Dussen will discuss the topics of milk pricing and pooling and what it will mean for price stabilization.

As California’s water supply situation remains at the forefront of ag industry news, Erick Johnson and Brian Hauss of The Water Agency, Inc. will provide a view of the Initial Water Supply Outlook for 2010. The State Water Project and Central Valley Project Allocations will be addressed as well as current court rulings, legislation and other factors impacting the state’s agricultural water supply.

Other topics that will be covered during the conference include Olives – ‘Reducing Our Dependence on Foreign Oil’ with Gino Favagrossa, President of the Olive Oil Council, and ‘Credit for Today’s Agriculture’ presented by Robert Souza from the Federal Land Bank Association of Kingsburg. Stephen Frerichs, ASFMRA Lobbyist from Washington D.C., is scheduled to appear via web cam to provide current insight in the political scene and what that will mean to farm owners and future values.
