Western Farm Press has launched its fifth online continuing education course for California and Arizona Pest Control Advisers (PCA) and other licensees. The course, entitled Lepidopterous Pest Management/Pesticide Safety Review, is sponsored online by DuPont Crop Protection.
The free course offers two CEUs and is now available on Western Farm Press’s Web site, www.westernfarmpress.com or Farm Press University’s Web site, www.farmpressuniversity.com
California Department of Pesticide Regulation has accredited it for two CEUs, one in Laws and Regs and one in the Other category. DPR has approved it for all licensing categories, including PCAs, private applicators, both qualified applicator categories, and aerial applicators. Plus, the California Certified Crop Adviser program has approved the new course for 2 CEUs in Integrated Pest Management.
The new course represents the third hour in Laws and Regs that DPR licensees can earn online at www.westernfarmpress.com
The Arizona Department of Agriculture has approved it for all ADA licensees.
The new course is a combo course; the first section covers lepidopterous pest management and the second part is a pesticide safety review. It is divided into text and question sections. There are 49 questions in the course, which the licensee must answer correctly online to receive credit. Once the course is completed, a notice of completion can be either e-mailed or mailed to Western Farm Press, which will notify the accrediting or certifying agency that the licensee has successfully completed the course.
Wayne Steele, Fresno, Calif., DuPont development representative who helped develop the course, along with several University of California and University of Arizona entomologists, said he is pleased with the results. “From a technology standpoint, the course offers excellent information for agricultural professionals and producers. The information is in-depth, with solid data to aid in the management of lepidopterous pests. “And it is presented in an easy-to-follow format. We are pleased with it and think it provides valuable information as well as CEUs for busy PCAs in the West.”
DuPont Area Sales Manager Bill Hume, also at Fresno, said, “Without a doubt, agriculture in California and Arizona is the most intense in the U.S. and the world. DuPont believes sponsoring this continuing education course on the Western Farm Press Web site brings an added value to products DuPont offers to this complex Western agricultural market. DuPont is pleased to offer this is an extremely valuable service.”
Hume noted that the online DuPont-sponsored course is available 24/7.
“There is almost no downtime in Western agriculture. This course allows PCAs and other licensees time to catch up on continuing education and gain hours when there is time in their schedules.”
Greg Frey, Western Farm Press publisher, commended DuPont for its sponsorship of the new course. “We have has tremendous support for the new online educational initiative at Farm Press, thanks to DuPont and others. DuPont obviously recognizes that Western agriculture is not only very complex, but highly regulated. It is imperative that PCAs and other licensees are kept up to date on the latest technology and regulations in their business.”
This new course is the seventh now offered online by Farm Press and other Primedia agricultural publications. In addition to the four courses now available online at the Western Farm Press Web site, there is a Spray Drift Management CEU offered for licensed applicators in Texas and Oklahoma. It is available online via the Southwest Farm Press Web site (www.southwestfarmpress.com).
In August, a national American Society of Agronomy accredited Certified Crop Adviser CEU was launched on Web sites for Delta Farm Press, Southeast Farm Press, Southwest Farm Press, Western Farm Press, Corn and Soybean Digest, Farm Industry News and Apply.
The first Farm Press CEU was launched in April, 2004. Since then, about 1,800 online courses have been completed.
