The Western Agricultural Processors Association (WAPA) is the recipient of a 2015 Agricultural Safety and Health Council of America (ASHCA) safety training grant for $7,500.
The grant will help offset a significant portion of the costs of special hazard communication training that WAPA will conduct in 2015 with other agricultural organization partners, including the California Fresh Fruit Association, California Citrus Mutual, and the Nisei Farmers League.
Partnering on the training will be Cal/OSHA Consultation and The Zenith.
Training will occur in April and May at multiple locations in California’s San Joaquin and Sacramento valleys.
WAPA says the goal of the project is to provide a significant safety training program on the important worker safety issue of hazard communication to workers of agricultural operations, including farms, cotton gins, nut hullers and processors, and packinghouses.
This first of its kind safety training class will be provided in English and Spanish and will focus on supervisors and lead foremen.
The ASHCA grant funds will reduce training costs with the goal of reaching more agricultural workers.
