California walnut industry renews critical referendum

First-ever California walnut industry continuation referendum yields whopping 90-percent-plus yes votes from growers and handlers. “We’re grateful for the continued support of our growers," says the California Walnut Board's Dennis Balint. 

In the California walnut industry’s first ever continuation referendum, a whopping 95 percent of eligible growers voting and a represention of 93 percent of the volume said yes to extend the measure.

The referendum passed with about a 30-percent cushion as at least two-thirds of eligible producers were required to approve the measure.

Voting in the referendum was held April 1-19.
