California almond harvest begins on schedule

California almond farmers begin shaking crop

California grower Alison Nagatani began almond harvest in early August, a couple weeks later that last year which was challenged by drought.

Though this was a tale of two different seasons as the Tulare County grower had “ample water” to irrigate her crop, the all-important bee pollination period was wrought with rain and poor weather for the bees to pollinate the blossoms during the February bloom period.

Nagatani farms 300 acres of the Nonpareil, Price, Butte, Mission and Padre varieties in the southern San Joaquin Valley.
