As of May 28, California’s tomato processors plan to offer contracts this year for 14.3 million tons of processing tomatoes in 2015– a 2-percent increase from the final contracted production total last year.
May contracted acreage of 295,000 is 5 percent below the January intentions forecast.
Fresno County remains the top California County in contracted planted acreage with 91,000 acres. Yolo, Kings, San Joaquin, and Merced are the remaining top-five counties for contracted planted acreage.
Combined, these counties comprise 73 percent of California’s 2015 contracted planted acreage.
This early processing tomato estimate is funded by the California League of Food Processors, in cooperation with the California Department of Food and Agriculture.
