California processors are pledging grower contracts for 15.0 million tons of processing tomatoes in 2015 which would be an all-time record if realized.
Processors estimate the contracted production for 2015 would come from 310,000 acres with an average yield of 48.39 tons per acre.
This contracted planted-acreage forecast is a 7 percent increase from last year.
This early-season processing tomato estimate is the result of a state tomato processor survey conducted by the National Agricultural Statistics Service’s California Field Office.
The data reported by processors was either tonnage with derived acreage, or acreage with derived tonnage.
The estimate was funded by the California League of Food Processors in cooperation with the California Department of Food and Agriculture.
