Almond Board names Waycott new CEO

The Almond Board of California announced today that Richard Waycott will become president and CEO of the industry's grower-funded federal marketing order.

Previously vice president and general manager of Cargill, Inc.'s Mercosur Ag Producer Services located in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Waycott joins the board as the industry prepares to harvest an estimated 980 million pounds. Currently co-managing partner and board of director vice president of Produmilk C.A., a Venezuelan soybean milk product company, he brings 24 years of food and commodity management experience to the almond industry.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to serve as the ambassador for such an innovative and well respected industry at a time when new markets are expanding and breakthrough nutritional and medical benefits are becoming known”, said Waycott.

Utilizing the board's $17 million budget, Waycott will oversee all functions of the board including: domestic and international promotion, nutrition and production research, almond quality/safety and statistics reporting. Effective Sept. 23, Waycott will work with the industry's 10-member volunteer board and it's 24 member staff to set strategic direction and implement programs meant to increase demand for almonds worldwide.

“Richard embodies all the qualities required to continue the industry's unprecedented growth,” said Ned Ryan, Almond Board chairman. The Almond Board has been actively seeking a replacement for former president and CEO, Rodger Wasson, who earlier this spring accepted the position of president at the California Strawberry Commission.
