Briefing Friday on Lubbock Ginning Laboratory

A news briefing will be held Friday, April 7 from noon until 12:15 p.m. in the Lubbock Convention Center (Room 103) regarding the USDA Cotton Ginning Laboratory in Lubbock and its significance to the High Plains cotton industry.

Under the Bush administration’s currently proposed FY07 budget, the lab is slated for closure – a move that would undermine important cotton harvesting/processing research at a time when fiber quality, air quality and other issues are critically important to U.S. cotton industry competitiveness, notes the National Cotton Council. Handouts will be available and lunch will be provided following the briefing.

Participants will include Steve Verett, president, Lubbock Chamber of Commerce; Rickey Bearden, chairman, Plains Cotton Growers; Ron Craft, president, Texas Cotton Ginners Association (TCGA); Tony Williams, TCGA executive vice president; and Russ Kuhnhenn, president, National Cotton Ginners Association.
