Case IH rolls out new Puma models

For growers who want it all — productivity, versatility, performance and power — Case IH is extending its Puma line of tractors with four new models.

“These new models are built on a shorter wheelbase, making them the perfect multi-purpose workhorse,” says Ron Morishita, Case IH marketing manager for Puma tractors. “From handling livestock and hay chores to fieldwork and spraying for row crops, this machine offers all-around utility. It's like having a new, hard working hired man that can do most any job — and do it quickly — while saving you money.”

Four new, short wheelbase models will join the current Puma lineup:

  • Puma 115 with 95 PTO HP;
  • Puma 125 with 105 PTO HP;
  • Puma 140 with 120 PTO HP;
  • Puma 155 with 135 PTO HP.

All models come equipped with a proven Case IH 6.75L (411 cu. in.) Tier 3-compliant engine that offers plenty of power, growing 30 or more horsepower for tough pulling applications. “Power Boost allows the operator to move through tough crop conditions or steep inclines without losing speed or productivity,” Morishita adds.

“The two-setting constant engine speed provides constant engine rpm and PTO speed regardless of load variation — giving you more control over managing your power and fuel usage.”

The standard, Power Shift transmission with 18 forward and 6 reverse gears is proven by years of durability in the field. It features the Auto-Shift system for both field and road that is standard on the new Puma models. “Auto-Shift provides automatic shifting based on load, which increases productivity and fuel economy,” says Morishita. “In addition, a 10×5 creeper gear option offers the right speed to match your job.”

An optional 19×6 EconoGear Full PowerShift transmission with creeper gears will save fuel when transporting long distances, running at a lower engine rpm at the same top speed of 25 mph. The 19×6 Full PowerShift transmission provides a 19th High-Speed Gear option, allowing the operator to run up to 31 mph, saving time when transporting long distances.

“Some customers want all the speed they can get, because they need to cover a lot of ground quickly,” Morishita explains. “Others would rather save fuel by reducing engine rpm. With this machine, both options are available.”

The new Puma models also have a convenient switch that provides maximum joystick versatility to operate the electro-hydraulic rear remote or the mid-mount valves. “Normally the joystick is used to operate the loader,” says Morishita. “This enables you to use it with the loader, as well as anything else you want to hook up to the front or rear hydraulics.”

To save time, forward and reverse shuttling can be reached from the steering wheel, without clutching or shifting. “There's a little lever on the left side of the steering wheel that acts like an automatic transmission. You flip it up and the tractor goes forward, down for reverse. So if you're using a loader all day, hauling manure or hay, you can save a lot of time,” Morishita says.

Another new option, Turn Assist steering, also comes in handy for close loader work. Turn Assist accelerates the turning action while minimizing operator effort. It allows full left- or right-hand turn by moving the steering wheel just 10 degrees, and works at speeds of up to 6 mph.

The SurroundVision cab has 67 square feet of glass, for excellent visibility for all applications. “It's the latest evolution of proven cab technology employed in the highly successful Case IH Maxxum, long-wheel base Puma and Magnum tractors,” Morishita notes. In addition, it has an optional high-visibility window in the roof, so the operator can see the loader in the raised position.

For improved visibility to the row, the new Puma models also feature a narrow front hood design, and the steering console is narrower compared to other Case IH tractor cabs. “Meanwhile, the optional Smart Suspension suspended axle provides a more comfortable ride, as well as 18 percent better traction efficiency.
