DuPont's Hume new WPHA chair

Bill Hume of E.I. DuPont & De Nemours Co. has been chosen as 2007 chairman of the Western Plant Health Association.

Hume was selected to replace Zoë Henderson of Dow AgroSciences, elected 2007 chairwoman during WPHA's annual meeting in October who received a company promotion requiring her to move to the United Kingdom in January. Subsequently, she stepped down as chairwoman.

Hume started in the crop protection industry 20 years ago, working for companies FMC and Griffin LLC. When DuPont purchased Griffin LLC, Hume remained with the company as its regional sales manager in Fresno, Calif. He was raised in a farming family in Dos Palos, Calif.

“Seldom do we get to volunteer with an organization that is so closely tied to the industry we work in and the people we work with,” Hume said. “I am fortunate to have the opportunity to serve as chairman this year.”

WPHA is a nonprofit trade association that represents crop protection and fertilizer manufacturers, biotechnology providers, and agricultural retailers in California, Arizona, and Hawaii.
