California weed science gathering continues to grow

The annual gathering of the California Weed Science Society (CWSS) drew more than 500 researchers, industry representatives and regulators to the state conference in Sacramento, Calif.

This year’s meeting included presentations on a cross-section of challenges facing managers in a variety of crops, including alfalfa, tree nuts, rice, rangeland and row crops.

Steve Fennimore, cooperative extension weed specialist with the University of California, was honored by the society for his work in the industry. Fennimore was recognized for managing a large group of authors who wrote chapters for “Principles of Weed Control,” Fourth Edition, an electronic CWSS publication.

According to past CWSS Board President Rick Miller, Fennimore “did a great job managing all of the editors, drafts, publication options and inevitable issues” to put together an excellent textbook on weed management.

The 2017 CWSS annual meeting is scheduled to take place in Monterey.
