Chlorothalonil NSRL lowered on Prop 65 list of chemicals

Chlorothalonil NSRL lowered to 41 µg/day Chlorothalonil and Syngenta products containing this active ingredient have not changed Syngenta updating labels and packaging for affected products

Syngenta is updating its chlorothalonil-containing product labels to meet the new No Significant Risk Level (NSRL) of 41 µg/day set by the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA). OEHHA lowered the NSRL for chlorothalonil from 200 µg/day to 41 µg/day, after conducting a cancer risk assessment using a more conservative method than the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The new NSRL is effective June 15, 2012.

Chlorothalonil, the industry-standard fungicide from Syngenta  that protects 65 crops from 125 plant diseases, has been on California’s list of Proposition 65 (commonly called “Prop 65”) chemicals since 1989. Syngenta’s updated chlorothalonil-containing product labels will include the statement:

A number of Syngenta agricultural and lawn and garden products contain chlorothalonil as an active ingredient, including:

  • Bravo Ultrex fungicide
  • Bravo Weather Stik fungicide
  • Bravo ZN fungicide
  • Chloronil 720 fungicide
  • Quadris Opti fungicide
  • Ridomil Gold Bravo fungicide
  • Tilt Bravo SE fungicide
  • Concert II fungicide
  • Daconil Weatherstik flowable fungicide
  • Daconil Ultrex Turf Care fungicide
  • Daconil Zn flowable fungicide
  • Instrata fungicide
  • Renown fungicide
  • Docket DF fungicide
  • Docket WS fungicide

The effectiveness of chlorothalonil has not changed, and Syngenta products with chlorothalonil continue to deliver the performance users have come to expect.

California’s Proposition 65, officially known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, requires the State to publish a list of chemicals known to cause cancer or birth defects or other reproductive harm. It is updated at least once a year and currently contains approximately 800 naturally occurring and synthetic chemicals.
