Spider mites reducing California corn silage yield and quality

Spider mites can become a damaging insect pest when field conditions are dry and dusty. Entomologists have known they can reduce corn yields, but until recently did not know they could also impact fiber and starch content. Tulare County, Calif., Farm Adviser Carol Frate discussed her research at the World Ag Expo Forage Seminar sponsored by Mycogen in Tulare.
